Martin
As per several offline discussions with you Martin - I find now that there seemes to be a major issue with browswer operations when externally linking from a html based course and linking to discussion forums in moodle (opening in a seperate browser window), or logging into moodle - activating the web course and then linking to the discussion forums(again in a sperate browser window).
IE 5/6 - works fine - if you have not already logged into moodle the login page comes up and once the login has been verified - you are pased to the correct discussion forum to continue and until you log off or shut down both browser windows. Even if you shut down the moodle forum window, provided the web window remains open, the links are parsed correctly and a new window is opened. If the forum window is left open, the new link refreshes the window with the new link.
Netscape - no matter what you do - acessing the same web program, you are contunually forced through the login page whenever a external web link is selcted, evening if you are already logged in, and then pushed to the home page of moodle. Direct acess to the links via the external lniks is impossible - yet works fine with IE.
Can anyone point me to a possible cause?

Cris,
Which version of Netscape are you using? I am using Mozilla 1.3b (the guts of the current generation of Netscape browsers) and have no problem going from Moodle Forum links located in an "external" (not in Moodle) web page to Moodle forum pages. I am passed to the login page only if I need to login and then passed directly to the correct forum page. If I am logged into Moodle I am passed to the correct page without going to the login page.
A question. If you are logged into Moodle do you have problems going between pages or does this work ok?

Hi Martin
I am using Netscape 6.2.2. This only happenss in Netscape and not Mozilla or IE5 or 6. I have even uninstalled Netscape and re-installed it.
Your question that even if I am logged in - yes, the problem still exists. I am also using XP-PRO on one machine and NT4 on another.
So the issue appears only to be with Netscape. grrrr......
I have resigned to the fact that I am suggesting everyone use IE as the preferred browser at the moment.
Thanks for your response.

I use Mozilla myself day-to-day but I'm doubting this is a a browser issue... all the browser has to do is pass HTTP_REFERER and optionally a cookie.
I notice that your site works both under http://www.raemec.com.au and http://raemec.com.au ... this can cause problems such as you're seeing when the actual site address doesn't match the address stored for wwwroot in the config.php. it would be better to have one of the addresses redirect to the main one. eg http://www.moodle.org
