Has anyone been able to get the old Tabbed or Retab format to work on v1.8?

Hi, I also tried this out but I got less than great results in 1.8:
I can only see the tabs using a handfull of themes. I tried the tabbasic theme as well but I'm still getting some undesirable results. Is this a CSS issue or something else? Would editing the CSS put the open topic in the center like it should be? Can anyone help. I really need a tabbed course format and 1.8 or 1.9.
How do you install this course format? I added it to the course folder and I get it in the drop down menu for format but after I select it nothing happens. I also notice that it is called formattabs. Moodle would be great if you didn't need to know php to get it to work for you. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
