Restore only brings in topic titles

I've tried restoring a course and all I get are the topic labels - no course data or activities or anything.  Yet if I look in the moodledata folders for the course then materials (PDFs etc) have been copied.

I've had this problem on 1.5.3 but 2nd attempt rectified.  Now trying to move a course from our 1.5.3 installation to a different installation of 1.8 to demo the courses (local laptop install) the same thing is happening - I get the label but no activities.

Looks like I'm not the only person having this problem - but very few responses here???

Hi Steve,

I'm not sure if you've found a solution but I had the exact opposite problem as yours. I had the icon, activities in the database tables, but no label. I looked for 3rd party modules, then when I finally tried backing up only my activities with no user data I was successful.

Beyond that I don't know how much assistance i can be as I'm pretty new to moodle,
