Using two quizzes in one lesson

Using two quizzes in one lesson

I have one lesson and several question pages. I also have a few quizzes. I want to jump to one ofthese quizzes. Then I continue with more questions and want to jump to another quiz.

The quizzes do not show up in the JUMP drop-down menu.

When I link a question to a quiz (under update this lesson)  only the last quiz shows up after end of lesson.

May I have suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Henri,
This is a question for the Lesson Module Forum, not for the Quiz Module Forum.
Anyway, what you want to achieve is currently not possible in Moodle.
You can do the following:
  • Lesson A
    • Question 1
    • Question 2
    • ...
    • End of lesson -> branch to activity, e.g. Quiz B
  • Quiz B
    • Question 1
    • Question 2
    • ...
    • End of Quiz
But there is no way to jump from one Lesson question to a Quiz ... and back to the Lesson at the end of the Quiz. Since you have in the Lesson module almost all the question types that exist in the Quiz, I wonder why you would want the students to leave the lesson to take a Quiz anyway. And don't you think this flow is going to look very complicated to the students?

You can't create questions that have answers of the type below in the Lesson module.

Read all five choices before selecting your answer. Choose the best answer.

(A) The sentence divides between teacher and is.
(B) The subject headword is teacher.
(C) The predicate headword is is
(D) A, B, and C are all true.
(E) A and B are true; C is false.

You *can* create these in Quiz by turning off "shuffle within question." I can figure out how to link to a quiz using the URL, but I can't figure out how to link directly back to the lesson at the end of the quiz. If that were possible, the flow you are worrying about would be rather transparent.

Work around, not very elegant, to put a quiz module into the lesson flow.

1. Insert a branch table page with content Click here to take quiz. Make "take quiz" a link and insert URL of quiz. (You get the URL by first creating the quiz and then right clicking on the quiz in the main moodle page of your classroom and "copy link location" or "copy shortcut").

Hint: the quiz must not be hidden or it will be inaccessible to students 伤心

2. In the question text of the last question, insert text something like When you have completed this quiz, click Return to Lesson and make that a link back to the lesson. (More guidance may be necessary, since the Return to Lesson link is visible from the moment the last question is opened but there are several steps left to complete the lesson.)

Follow up to my earlier post. Using 1.8.3.

The quiz cannot be hidden, BUT you can put it in a topic or week and then reduce the number of topics/weeks that are visible so that the topic/week where the quiz is located is not visible!

Example:

Set the classroom setting to 12 topics.

Put the quiz in topic 12.

Copy (right click) the link location (Fire Fox) or Copy the shortcut (IE)

Paste a link to the quiz in a Lesson branch table page. Example: click here

Click Add a Branch Table Page.

Change the classroom settings to 11 topics.

The quiz is no longer visible, but is still active for your students.

Then, make sure that there is a link, per #2 in my original post, that points to the next page in the lesson.

Whether this is a good pedagogical idea, we here have not decided.

Hi Henri,

As Joseph pointed out, what you want is not possible (yet) but if you need you students to answer a few questions and then return to the Lesson, you could link to an uploaded Hot Potatoes self-test exercise from the feedback window of a Lesson question (or from any other Lesson page for that matter). Naturally, there is no way to check that they actually answer these questions or what their result is, but it does create a separate quiz inside the Lesson.

Rgrds,
Paul.

Dear Paul:

Thanks for your suggestion also. I'll gain experience with hot potatoes.

I am surprised that the formats of matching questyions in the quiz module and the lesson module are different.

In the lesson, the questions are straight forward: queation 1, answer 1, question 2, answer 2, (one feedback, links to other pages in every response).

In the quiz, corect answer, wrong answer, answer 1, response 1, answer 2, response 2, (no feedback and only two links to other pages).

In Moodle, the Lesson module and Quiz module have been developed quite separately from one another, which explains why different options have been chosen for the same question types. There has been talk of bringing those two modules closer together, especially by making the questions in the Question bank available to the Lesson module. However, no progress has been made in this direction.
