We're currently running several installations of version 1.5, and I'm planning a major upgrade over the summer holidays, which will include upgrading the Apache/PHP/MySQL platform they run on. I'm undecided, though, whether to upgrade to version 1.7 or 1.8.
I've got to upgrade to 1.7 whatever I decide to do, because I'll need it to do the UTF-8 conversion, but I'm not sure whether to stick at 1.7 or upgrade again to 1.8.
I've been searching this site to try and see what features or advantages 1.8 offers over 1.7, but I can't find any sort of list. Can anyone tell me what benefits 1.8 has over 1.7, please? Is it advisable to do a double-upgrade in one go, or would I be better upgrading to 1.7 now and perhaps upgrading to 1.8 (or even 1.9) in summer 2008?
Any advice or suggestions would be welcome!
Chris
