My test: I started at Language Editing>>Current Language>>[at this point I changed to Japanese because I don't understand it]. To navigate to >>Edit words or phrases>>. I counted and hovered over the links while watching the status bar to find my way. Once I got to the strings it was a matter of finding the the right one.
The downside was finding the string because there are so many. If you know moodle well enough, it should be ok. In my case, you would have to tell me where the string is, otherwise, it would take forever using this method.
The upside is that all Japanese strings were nicely aligned beside their English equivalents.
What happens once you copy the text into a separate block is beyond me.
