Using Moodle Forums - Verification that they are working

I wanted to check and make sure that the roles are as they should be for moodle.org's Using Moodle course and its forums for the Moodler role. The reason I mention this is because I received a Moodle message from Dave Shearan [Mon, 00:58] who writes -

When I try to access a Forum on Using Moodle I get the following message:
"Sorry, but you need to be part of a group to see this forum."
This has only just happened since the site was upgraded. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Any suggestions for helping Dave. I told him that I would post and see what was happening.

Yes, sorry about that, there was some bugs in 1.8 that only occurred when a course was in non-forced visible groups mode. It's all fixed now I think: MDL-8741

Thanks for fixing the access to forums on moodle.org.

However, it is very strange that I have not received any email from the moodle.org forums for the last 24 hours. It usually trickles into my inbox every 15 minutes.

I can view (and reply to) messages when I login to moodle.org and look at the forums, but the new messages are not emailed out to me thoughtful

Has anybody received email from moodle.org in the last 24 hours?

Yes, the forum cron is having some problem - I'm working on that right now.

Please advise if Groups - Forum issue has been resolved. Specifically, I am trying to set "Separate Groups" for a Forum and assign student role for this forum. In Admin > Settings, I check NO for Group Mode and Force. Students (who are assigned to the forum) see this message "sorry, but you need to be part of a group to see this activity."
