Is there a plugin for the Quiz module that would allow for creating a practice budget where the student could enter different values for the different expense categories and then have it add up and balance against their income?

Thanks,

I know of no such plugin. What about having them do the budget in a spreadsheet? You (the teacher) set up the spreadsheet with the budget categories and the formulas and make it available to them as a resource. They download the spreadsheet during the quiz and enter their numbers. The only challenge is how do they submit the finished spreadsheet to you. Unfortunately, quiz questions do not allow attachments -- not even essay questions (vote for MDL-8229).

So you are probably forced to convert this one question into an "upload" assignment, which allows an attachment. You can have them do the assignment under test conditions. It's not ideal, but it's a workaround.

I've seen some rather impressive Java Script spreadsheets. (for example TrimSpreadsheet Note: use CAPITALS in Cell references and function names, or SimpleGroupWare JS+PHP Spreadsheet {simple (sic) smile })

Or maybe a specific Java Script Spreadsheet could be constructed using some basic code collections. Not sure I want to "hang the bell on that cat" but just wanted to point out some possibilities.

Just wondering if something like that could somehow be used, maybe incorporated in a SCORM package.
