Moodle Setup

Hi all,

I have a general question about Moodle and have searched around and not found much on this. We are still in the initial phases of deciding on a content management system.

Here is out proposed setup:
We have 5-6 teachers each with 15 or so students in their class.
The classes are English 101, English 102, Science 101, and so on.

What we'd like to do:
Create classes/courses on Moodle so that each class has one teacher and only the students in the class can view the content.
Teachers can post messages to students in that class.
Students will be in multiple classes and should be able to see English 101 and Science 101. This student not being in English 102 should not be able to see any of the content in it or see messages about it.

Is this possible with Moodle?

Thanks

Definitely!  This is what Moodle is designed to do.  Create a collaborative community for teachers and students.  Students enrolled in multiple courses can participate independently in each of those courses, yet their individual calendar will show events from all courses in which they participate.  For what you are looking for Moodle is the best thing out there!

What you describe Steve is how Moodle generally operates. I'm not sure what you mean by collaborative community, you might try being more specific as to who you want to collaborate and what they are working on and then post that to teaching strategies. We tend to deal with those issues there, as they are not related to basic Moodle set up as much as to how it is used and what functionality you make available to whom.
