Hi there,

I am having trouble with entering fractions using the Tex filter.

I am hoping someone can help me out.

If I place the following x=\frac{1}{2} (with the dollar signs) in say a question, I get a sort of blank image with a small horizontal line in it. Clicking on this strange image takes me to texdebug.php. If I then paste x=\frac{1}{2} into the form and click Show Image, the fraction displays perfectly. So I really do not know what is going on. I have download a Tex glossary and it looks like all Tex syntax works except \frac which is important to me.

The other weird thing is that \fbox{x=\frac{1}{2}} works, whereas x=\frac{1}{2}} does not......

I am using moodle 1.7.1.

Any help would be much appreciated.

In your third from last paragraph, you say

There is an extra '}' at the end of the second LaTeX expression.

\fbox{x=\frac{1}{2}} works, whereas x=\frac{1}{2}} does not

There is an extra '}' at the end of the second LaTeX expression.

Sorry John,

That was a cut and paste mistake.

the line should read;

\fbox{x=\frac{1}{2}} works, whereas x=\frac{1}{2} does not.

OK, that's mystifying. Did you try the expression in your LaTeX filter debugger?

http://yoursite/filter/tex/texdebug.php

See what hapapens when you test the expression there. The Help at the bottom of the debugger page might give you some clues.

http://yoursite/filter/tex/texdebug.php works perfectly.

This problem is very strange indeed.

I'll post some pictures to explain what's happening later today.
