Import Powerpoint - page can't be displayed

Import Powerpoint - page can't be displayed

We have recently upgraded to Moodle 1.6.3 and I have been familiarising myself with the new features.

Was really excited to see the 'Import Poewrpoint' feature in the Lesson module.  Unfortunately, I have followed the instructions and when I go to upload the zipped file it leads me to a 'Page Cannot Be Displayed' webpage.

Anyone got any suggestions how I get this working?

This new function would be really useful for our trainers.

Alison

Hi Alison,
MoodleDocs should have some help or at least some insights . I don't recall (but my memory is horrible) that error.

Most common error is not using the right version of MS PowerPoint. Can NOT be 2003 or later. But I don't think that is the error message that comes up. The link gives a tweak that I have not tried for 2003.

Another common error is that the PowerPoint is too complicated. My trainers love graphics, embedded videos, with slide backgrounds that are part of the presentation. The HTML code for this gets really complicated and Import PowerPoint will not handle it. See the best practices in the link above.

Hope this helps a little, if it not, I will get my localhost up and running an try some illegal activity to try and duplicate the error message. <grin> Chris

I haven't used the new function as a hyper link in the lesson works fine. The trick to get it all to work is quite complex if you have embedded videos and files.

The solution is that you need to load all the files that link into the PP to your course and then copy the web address of each file and then copy that into the hyperlinks of your PP. Finally load the PP and all links work fine.

If you need a simple way then set up an ftp and have all the files there.

I´m facing the same problem even trying to upload a ppt file without any image and I´m sure that I followed the instructions above...
