Hello all,
I've been looking into activities linking and conditional activities modules, but not getting very far.
I was wondering if anyone out there knows or has managed to integrate Hot Pot into Lesson?
By this i mean, not at the end or begining or having to be in sequence, but randomly throughout large (long) lessons.
i.e. Can a Hot Pot quiz be called upon whilst at random points within the lesson and then carry on where from the point where the lesson was left.
Any hacks or advice would be greatly appriciated.
i'm currently using a 1.5.4 version on the particular moodle instance i want this to work under. I have hacked together a modification of lesson, which is an exam. This does not give feedback to students and awaits for marking. But of course this is only for version 1.5.4 of moodle and i do not wish to go changing all the necessary files again for the hack to work.
I have moodle versions 1.4.2 , 1.5.3+ , 1.6.1 , 1.6.2 , 1.6.3 so if there is a chance to get any of these versions working with Hot Pot i would still consider doing the hack again for my Exam.
Also does anyone know of an 'Exam' module that may be included in a newer version of Moodle??
Thanks all
Steve B
Dear Steve,
I'm afraid that at the moment it is not possible to include a HotPot activity in a Lesson in the same way that a Quiz activity can be included. The only possibility at the moment is to import the Hot Potatoes source file into the Quiz module and then use the questions from there.
However, the idea of using HotPots in a Lesson has been talked about before, here, and I have it in mind to make it possible later this year.
cheers
Gordon

Gordon,
Slightly off subject, but can one of you point me to where information or code about adding a Quiz to a Lesson, that you mentioned, as I need to use features in the Quiz that aren't in the multichoice question system available in the standard lesson.
Is there a special version of the lesson module that allows this? Or did I miss understand your posting?
Thanks
Roger

Oh yes, Joseph it absolutely right. I think I meant add a question
Here's what I was talking about:
Add a question page to a Lesson
sorry for my confusion

Hello Gordon,
I have read through the posts you suggested from 2005.
I'm guessing no further advance has been made to integrate a hot pot quiz into lesson.
I have read your post stating your estimates on the work needed to be done to get the accomplished. I was hoping you could give me a more upto date estimate for how much programming work this would take and what the charge for the work to be completed would cost. Depending on your estimate I would be quite confident the business i work for would stump up for the fees or at least a large contribution!
I am using a moodle versions 1.4.2 all the way upto 1.6.3 and would like the necessary changes to work with these versions
If you require any further details from me I will reply with great haste!
Many thanks if you would consider under taking this project

Hi Steve,
thanks for your message. What an exciting start to 2007!
I am just about to begin programming on a major rewrite of the HotPot module. It will be faster and better than ever before.
The new module will do everything the current module does, and will continue to be open-source and freely available to everyone.
However, the new HotPot module will also have "hooks" for "add-ins", which will add extra functionality to the HotPot module. For instance, I have in mind some add-ins which will allow HotPot quizzes to be viewed in a Flash player, or on on mobile phones. I would also like to allow the HotPot module to administer completely different kinds quizzes (e.g. Qedoc), and handle new kinds of input formats (=source files) and output formats (=players), such as those created by Alan Hess.
Anyone will be able to create add-ins and make them available, freely or commercially, as they please. I will make several add-ins which I hope to be able to sell, and so continue funding for development of the HotPot module.
I had intended that allowing HotPots in Lessons would be an add-in that I would create and sell myself. However, if you would like to pay for me to develop this add-in and then make it freely available (or sell it yourself) that would be fine too.
I will contact you privately to discuss your exact requirements
best regards
Gordon
