I am new to Moodle. We want to design e-leraning platform for a course. The problem is that testing contents require a quite complex design where different type of questions have to be constructed. We have been exploring the follwing sofware for evaluations:
- Hotpotatoes
- Articulate Quizmaker
- http://rathe.medinfo.ufl.edu/
I like the capabilities of the last it looks adapted to Medicine. I would like to know your recommendations apart from price. We have a dedicated server running Linux and we have a system admin expert in CGI forms.

Hi you cant compare "hotpotatoe" with "moodle".
Moodle is a toolset of instruments you may use for training, collorboration,... and testing.
f.e. hotpotate may be part of moodle (you can import these files)
what you need BEFORE working on a plattform is a design of your way of training. Then you may deside, which tool is the best.
BUT if you have no idea moodle will be in all situation the best choice, because its flexible. Just have a look at the moodle documentation.
Try to describe, what you expect and then hints may help you...

Thanks a lot for your reply. It was not my intention to compare Moodle with these softwares. We try to use Moodle as a e-leraning platform but we want a capable software for evaluating people who have take the courses. Here we think Moodle is behind the other softwares we cited. Because of that I wanted your opinion.

Moodle has more options and possibilities in total, then all other systems I know. It depents on your criterias to answer that question.
One point: It would be a lot more work to handle differnt systems and you cant use the gradebook from moodle ...
If you tell me your criterias - maybe I can answer your questions, we have thousends of examinations done in moodle ...

Where I can have a look to the exams designed in Moodle ?
A second part where I thought Moodle was less good was having a sumary of the scores get by all students. I mean management of the results for awhole group.

1.) Moodle has no typical solution with "hotspots" on images, we have a similar situation, to user "hotspots" and solved it with numbers on this pictures. then moolde can be used in assign solutions...
There has been an enhancement for the quiz, but I am not sure if this is running under 1.7, which has this feature.
2.) Have a look at the gradbook - with all the options (you have to change the mode there, there are advanced features!)

Going through the documentation here will be very helpful - so will running a test Moodle site.
There is a Moodle fix that will fit your anatomy identification test need - the info is here: http://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=45584#281489.
But you definitely want to familiarize yourself with Moodle before you try that - reading the forum will probably convince you of that!
