There is no such functionality in Moodle right now, and no immediate plans to add it. If I remember correctly there was a contributed patch that did something along these lines, but I didn't look at it personally so that's as much as I know. Search the forums for "course date manager block" or something like this. You can also look at the contrib/ are in our CVS repository, there's a good chance that the code is there. In both cases however it's dated, so you or someone else will have to update it to work with current versions.
It's also a good idea to submit a feature request to our bug tracker describing the issue. If you decide to do so, try to be quite specific in how the suggested feature will work and what exactly it will need to do because that will make it easier for the team to evaluate (and presumably decide to implement) it.
