I had no idea what this was all about (although I could work it out) so I looked it up. I had been finding it a little irritating to be honest (especially when followed by "and I don't play one on the internet" (to which I always have the urge to reply "why don't you stop typing then!") but I have to say I was somewhat surprised to find out that it is actually a crime in some jurisdictions to even give the appearance of giving legal advice, so people were generally protecting themselves from potential prosecution (probably!). You live and learn.

You have to be careful about giving out anything that might be construed as medical advice, too, although I think doctors aren't quite as sue-happy as lawyers. smile

Hmm... I wonder if there are any cases where someone's gotten in trouble for giving engineering advice without being a PE?
