Hi!

I did some patching related to custom titles today, moodle_16 should be compatible with 1.7

I am planning some more bugfixing for 1.6.x and 1.7.x after the planned reorganization in the contrib area.

Please file any book related bugs into our tracker at http://tracker.moodle.org/browse/CONTRIB

thanks!

Sorry, I'm new to this. How is the Book_16 installed? Do I just need to drop the directory in a path somewhere? Thanks.

OK, I followed the steps made super clear by Pat Cresswell's notes on installing (non-standard) "block" and "mod" functions. She was very clear in her notes (Thanks Pat smile).

I have uploaded the Book_16 directory into the /mod directory and renamed the directory to "book." However, the "book" module is not listed in the Admin subsections anywhere (under the Modules sections subsections Activities, Blocks , Filters). Now this may have to do with the fact that I'm using the Moodle 1.7 version and somethng is amiss. Moodle didn't go through any dances to update and install the modification. Does anything need to run on the server side?

Does anyone have a clue on what I may have missed in the steps ?

-------------------- Update ----------------------

I've been running phpBB for many years and I'm used to having the steps listed in the download file explaining what is to be done to install the module / update. I've just found out (by digging into old mail here) that I have to run ...moodle/admin to install. I will try that now.

P.S. Should install instructions be in the mods?

HI!

I had the same problem when installing the book module.
Try bringing you Moodle installation into Maintenance mode.
When I then wanted to look at the notifocations, the normal installation routine began and worked fine.

I jusat installed Book_16 into my version of 1.7 everything seems to have worked OK Except that when I try to add an activity I see at the bottom of the activity list the following Modulename. When I click on this label, I get an error that say this module type doesn't exist. Anybody have a suggestion here?

I had this same problem.  I am very new to moodle and sure that I just didn't do something correctly.  I had the same problem when installating the podcast.  I'm still looking for the answer.

Since I was still early in the installation of this system, I blew away the data base and removed the book module from the mod folder. I then reinstalled the book module and rebuilt the entire database. That seemed to fix my problem.

For some reason I can't move chapters up and down when editing a book in 1.7.

Is this just me or is everyone finding this?

Hi!
the 1.6 version should be usable in 1.7, if you find a bug please file a it in the tracker - there is a new section for contrib modules.

What about roles and permissions? Would we be able to restrict editing/viewing book to certain roles? What happens with older modules and blocks that haven't been updated for roles in general?
