Windows server: Installing moodle in windows server 2003

I've installed the complete package for beta version 1.7 and followed the steps, which are to rename the directory to c:\xampplite, then to start the setup_xampp.bat, then the setup_xampp.exe

Then I go to my ie browser and type localhost, what I get is an error , it can load the page, so I can begin the installation process?

Can someone guide me through the process?

Thanks and talk to you soon.

I'm not sure exactly why you're getting this error, but is there some reason you're trying 1.7?  Beta versions of Moodle are only for testing and are not stable.  If you are just beginning to use it, you should install 1.6.2, or whatever the latest stable branch is.

Your error might be coming from an improperly configured XAMPP.  Usually, during setup, you're asked to allow the program to bipass the Windows firewall.  If you did not do this, it won't work.  Also, one of the two files (setup_xampp.bat and .exe) will be sufficient....I'm not sure which...  the instructions should say.  After that, you need to "start" XAMPP.  Whenever you are about to power down your computer, you have to run the "stop" script.

Installation is not completely transparent, and can present a number of problems.  The best advice I can give you is to read the instructions on moodle.org and all documentation extremely carefully.  It is easy to make a mistake.  With a little time and patience, you'll be up and running!

Hope this helps.  Good luck.

Hi

As well as Patrick's points, make sure to check that all of the steps in the installation documentation have been followed. After you have moodle working, remember to make sure that you go through the security steps wink.

Hope this helps!
