Hello,

I'm not sure exactly where is the best place to post this problem because I think that it is a little more general than just messaging.

Since Oct 5th our Moodle site has not been able to send e-mail out from any of the e-mailing functions -- this includes messaging, but also assignments and forums. Checking in the logs, I find this:

mailer library: ERROR: SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.

Now there are a few things that I have already checked.
  1. The smtp host, username and password have not changed since, well, the birth of the site in Sep 05. I have checked -- they are the same as _my_ mail settings in my e-mail client which is able to send e-mails without any problems.
  2. The problem is a general e-mail problem that affects any module that needs to send e-mail.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? My Moodle info is as follows:

If I recall, this update was done from a CVS download. I'm not sure if that is relevant or not.

has your anti-virus software changed, been updated etc. i have exactly the same message and it was discovered that McAfee was blocking mail.

I doubt it, but don't know: the site is externally hosted.

I can use the same settings from within my normal mail client -- that still works. Am not sure then why it would pick on Moodle only.

I am waiting for feedback from the tech support people.
