It's definitely better than commentary in my opinion.
Yes, that's a good suggestion. In WebCT it's called "General feedback", to contrast against the feedback associated with a specific answer.
I vote for General feedback. I find Commentary is too vague and Explanation too precise (the contents might not be always an explanation).

Indeed, except that the contents may not always be feedback. 
My initial feeling was that Explanation was better, then when I saw Dan's post I thought that was better still. However, I think both the General feedback and Explanation options are too specific and that on this occasion the more generic "Commentary" is a good option.
This one could run and run like some of the great moodle naming discussions of yore.
