I know that it is impossible to protect web resources from being copied, BUT...
If I import a Word or pdf file as a Resource, all it takes is someone clicking on the Save As... button to save the whole document into their hard disks.
Is it possible to disable this at all? This may not be a moodle problem, but can moodle support some kind of copy protection feature?
I'm curious how the other users running pay sites protect their content.

May I perhaps ask you to consider that the true value of a good course is not the resources, but the teacher and the quality of interactions between all participants.
In fact I think downloading of resources should be encouraged if it helps students study them off-line etc. It's not like resources are hard to get hold of (see google.com or your local library). The purpose of joining an online learning class is to be part of an environment that stimulates you and helps you to learn.

But there will be courses, especially corporate in-houses programs, which have a lot of proprietary materials.
I guess it's only a matter of making it easier or more difficult to copy, not whether we can even prevent copying.

Acrobat is possible the best format to use in this case for secure documents as you can -
- Password Protect
- Digitally Watermark the document is
- Prevent printing and editing , disable copy paste functions
- Use secure certificates

It's all very well to say only the Teacher matters. But to ignore that teaching material also matters, is ignoring reality.
It's 2016 and the piracy on the web and some specialised content does need to be protected.... to find that the last discussion on this topic is dated 2003...???!!! Wow. Guess there's a blind spot if ever there's one.

I'd suggest that resurrecting 13-year-old threads and taking what might be seen as an agressive tone (accusations of "ignoring reality", words typed in uppercase, strings of multiple exclamation marks) might not be the most effective way to get the response you're after.
If you'd like to re-open the topic of copy protection, I'd reccommend you start a new thread with a calm, reasoned discussion of your requirements, and invite others to share their views/experience. Perhaps a forum such as General Help or Teaching with Moodle would be a good place to get feedback from other users.
Poster might also want to do a better search as this topic has been discussed on numerous occasions in the last 13 years
