What kind of support person do I need for troubleshooting?

What kind of support person do I need for troubleshooting?

I have been attempting to get my first Moodle course up and running for a few weeks now.  I have been able to get most of my questions answered thanks to this wonderful community but I think in some cases it would be better if I could hire some technical support.  For example, to help me with my current backup problem.

Because I'm not a programmer I'm not sure what technical skills I should be looking for.  I know that a Moodle partner would give me the help I need but I am looking for a lower-cost, preferably local option.  I figure I need a PHP programmer - but are there other or more specific skills I should be asking about?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Deborah,

To obtain the very best Moodle support, I would always recommend a Moodle Partner.

My college has a support contract with Moodle Partner Pteppic.net, which we're very happy with, as well as an in-house PHP programmer. IMO Moodle Partners offer great value for money, since they know Moodle extremely well and may consult other Moodle Partners or Moodle HQ if necessary.

I would agree with Helen.  While I haven't had any direct experience with any of the Moodle partners, the best benefit they offer would be knowing Moodle.  Any php developer you hire would likely reqire time to familiarize themselves with Moodle...likely at your expense.  Also, I would imagine that most (if not all) of the Moodle Partners keep up to date with changes, work-a-rounds, and other general options.
