Special language characters showing ? mark

Special language characters showing ? mark

Hello,

When copying and pasting eastern European characters into my glossary, it is fine, but once submitting them, the special character turns into a question mark (?). (For example: karličnog) What needs to be done to fix this? I though Moodle was utf-8?

Thanks in advanced.

A few things...

* is your Moodle 1.6 or newer?
* If it was an upgrade to 1.6.x, did you perform the utf-8 upgrade after the install?
* Are you completely sure that the application you are pasting from is set to utf-8?

I strongly suspect one of the first two, as your example here looks fine.

Yes, its an upgrade to 1.6, and the install guide does not really explain specifically how to do this database conversion to utf-8

This mentions "the migration process" but says nothing of how to do it: http://docs.moodle.org/en/Database_migration

Just go to the admin page. There should be a message at the top inviting you to proceed with the upgrade. Make sure you have a database backup first !!!
