Stopping the preview of uploaded or chosen file

Stopping the preview of uploaded or chosen file

Hi there.

When you add a file such as a Word doc onto the course page, it always previews the item.  Is there a way to stop this?  When I am changing a lot of files, it gets annoying having to close windows and using the breadcrumbs to go back.

Many thanks

Neil

This drives me nuts too, though I see why it is sometimes useful. Maybe a check box as to whether we want to preview the file or not, developers?

OP, what I've been doing in the meantime is changing my browser settings to always ASK me before opening a file from a link, and then disabling popups. That way the "new window" doesn't pop up and thus the "Do you want to open or save this file?" dialog can't.

In Firefox, do like this:
Tools > Options > Web Features
Check the top box, "Block pop up windows"
Then click the "Downloads" tab and check "Ask me where to save every file"

Thanks, I am glad its not just me. This is certainly a feature I'd like to see added, the checkbox idea is a good one I think, maybe thats on the cards?

Hate to do a "me too" but... me too! The previewing feature, while well-intentioned, drives myself and most of our teachers nuts.
