Backup and Import fail at 'zipping backup'... no error message though.

My backups and imports fail at 'zipping backup'... but i get no error message.  it simply stops.  please help. i have limited knowledge of moodle.

this is in 1.6, but was also the case in 1.5.

Hi, I'm having the same problem and in my case it's very important to have a full backup of the courses since we're migrating to a new server not maintained by our team and we have to provide them the zip file they will then import into the new moodle.

The main problem I think is with the number of students enrolled in the course, for example the following backup hangs with no errors

Include Assignments with user data
Assignments5
Submissions245
Include Course Users
Users71
Include User Files
Files58
Include Course Files
Files10

This is all we see and I don't know where to look to fix this problem.

  • Creating temporary structures
  • Deleting old data
  • Creating XML file
    • Writing header
    • Writing general info
    • Writing course data
    • Writing users info. . . . . . .
    • Writing scales info
    • Writing groups info
    • Writing events info

    • Writing modules info
      • Assignments
  • Copying user files
  • Copying course files
  • Zipping backup

Any ideas? Please, could anyone help us?

I am having this same issue, I go throught the backup process, the temp files get created in the temp dir of moodledata, the zip file is created, but is is 0 bytes big.  The backup web page says zipping file but does not go further than that.  The moodle backup xml file is about 227 megs.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

By chance are the activities/resources you are trying to import associated with groups in the course you are importing from?

Frontpage backup with Moodle version 1.9.5 did the same thing. Upgrading version 1.9.6 corrected that problem
