Thank you so much for sharing this code! I work for UNSW, and we constantly face student privacy issues regarding email addresses etc. Up until today, I was planning on simply not using the 'participants' block.
Your update is a wonderful addition to the standard participants code and I believe it should be added to the next stable release.
