Please could someone give me some advice about designing a new header for the front page of our school moodle site. I have no experience of doing this except for creating simple basic websites and using Photoshop to create images.

I have designed a nice jpg. banner however I'm not sure how big it should be! One problem I have is that our site is on our local education authority's server which I do not have access to. Anything I create has to be emailed to someone there for them to put it on! So I am unable to experiment and try different things out as I normally would. I don't want to have to waste their time by sending lots and lots of different things until it is right.

Basically could someone give me some advice in very very VERY simple terms.

I have noticed, through downloading themes, that some of the headers consist of a jpg. on the left and some sort of file on the right. What happens to the 'logged in' box/link?

Any advice/help that anyone could give me would be greatfully appreciated!

Hi Chris,

Just a quick though on this. You try installing Moodle locally to design/test your new them and send the finished article to the folk at the LEA.

You can find some instructions on how to do this here.

Indeed! Plus you can test with different browsers/screen resolutions until your heart's content (remember to clear the browser cache regularly e.g. Ctrl + F5).

Hi Chris,

A simple way to create your own theme is to take an existing standard theme, e.g. Formal White, rename it and adapt its colours in the css files and replace the logos with your own (same size 100 x 769 pixels for the front page logo and 50 x 385 pixels for the small logo).

Rgrds,
Paul.
