Moodle up from 4.5 to 5.0 - PHP Extension GD
Happy to close this post, along with other posts related to this topic.
Problems were eventually solved by slowly working through removing and adding the PPA repositories, along with some missing files. It took a good while to solve, and summarising it is difficult.
The key point was to use the Ubuntu repositories without Andrej php PPA. There was some version swapping and priorities from php8.2-fpm to 8.3. 8.4 will not work due to missing extensions. Once the upgrade was clean without error, then add Andrej PPA to install the missing extensions. There was an issue though with the fix as when doing apt with Andrej PPA where there were version conflicts for libgd3, there were upgrades held back. To remove this issue, I took Andrej PPA out of /etc/apt/sources.list.d. If I find I need to upgrade extensions, then I'll replace Andrej PPA, do the upgrade and remove it. I'm hopeful this is a temporary issue with new releases.
Therefore, this and above issues have been SOLVED, and can now close.
I'm now upgrading Mdl 4.5 to 5.0, however there is an error and the end of the upgrade which I'll post separately in Upgrade Moodle 4.5 to 5.0 - Error MDL-76974 -> here.
