Hello All,
I would like to interview someone (educator, instructional designer, developer...) that has used or developed an educational AI-assisted plugin for Moodle.

Thanks!

Thank you Marcus,

What AI tool(s) are/is or may be available in Moodle that will increase teacher engagement?

What AI tools are or may be available in Moodle that will help increase student behavioral engagement?

What AI tools are or may be available in Moodle that will help increase student cognitive engagement?

What AI tools are or may be available in Moodle that will help increase student emotional engagement?

What AI tools are or may be available in Moodle that will help increase student social engagement?

What can, will, or should be done to Moodle to offer gamification feature?

What can a business do to lower the cost of using an AI plugin with an LLM?

Are there any learning or training opportunities in AI-enhanced Moodle for teachers?

Angel - I am sure it would help Marcus and others who might respond if you can first tell us what your own research has already found - doubtless you have done that in advance of posting here.

2.  AI drop-out detection or log in recording,  tool
3. AI expert tool example like in a given case applying the PESTLE (Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, and Environmental) example  in LAMB another AI learning assistant https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0920548924001090
4. Emotionally responsive AI chatbot
5. AI chatbot tool for image generation in a forum
6. instructor built math games example Nvidia GameGan, An AI educational game building tool
7. Ollama cheaper than maybe not Deepseek?

Hi Angel Morris,

I've developed some amazing tools myself to enhance the Moodle experience, and I'm happy to share my two cents!

To increase teacher engagement, I created the local_geniai, a plugin that brings an intelligent chatbot, capable of acting as a virtual assistant, answering platform-related questions, helping with course setup, and even providing personalized pedagogical suggestions. It also has a virtual tutor.

In partnership with Sil, GeniAI also includes a content generator for H5P, making it easier to create interactive activities.

When it comes to student behavioral engagement, the video platform OttFlix is an excellent solution! With it, you can create immersive and engaging experiences by combining interactive videos with AI-generated automatic subtitles. After generating the subtitles, OttFlix goes further and transforms the video into an Interactive Video, allowing the creation of Mind Maps, personalized quizzes, Interactive Books, and many other H5P solutions that encourage active student participation. It’s a great way to keep students engaged by offering different ways to interact with content, while the teacher can track student performance in real time.

In terms of emotional engagement, AI can assist through sentiment analysis and personalized feedback. Some tools can be used to monitor student participation and even identify when a student may be facing emotional difficulties, suggesting interventions and appropriate support. However, I don’t know of anything specifically available for this yet.

Social engagement can be enhanced with the use of AI to foster collaboration. Chatbots and virtual tutors can encourage forum discussions, promote group activities, and even help form study groups based on complementary interests and skills, just like the GeniAI already does.

And regarding gamification, there are many ways to implement it in Moodle, such as using H5P activities generated by GeniAI to bring a playful touch to learning. The future of Moodle with AI is all about increasing personalization and interactivity!

Thanks Eduardo,
Are there additional fees to use GeniAI?
Is there an instructional pdf or video on how to use GeniAI ?
Or can your company deploy Moodle and the plugins?
Or can I just watch this to get a general understanding?
How long have you been in development, teaching, etc?

Hi Angel Morris,

Are there any additional fees for using GeniAI?
— No. Only the fees charged by OpenAI.

Is there any PDF or instructional video on how to use GeniAI?
— Not yet, as Sil and I are still finalizing it, along with the GeniAI Academy.
— However, in Portuguese, Sil has a course available at: ToDraw - GeniAI Course.

Can your company implement Moodle and the plugins?
— Yes, we can implement Moodle and the necessary plugins.

Or can I just watch this to get a general understanding?
— The video above is just a demonstration of Core AI, which is mainly used by Moodle HQ.
— See more details in the links https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=465102#p1867017 and https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=462048#p1855133

I would say the AI knows better than any single person here, because it read (stole) everything everybody said here.

A side question: How do we know that your research questions were given to you by an AI model?

"I would say the AI knows better than any single person here,"

Rather than "better" I would express it as it knows the broad average of content on the web.  For example most people reading this forum would give a better answer to the question "how many times does the letter r appear in the word strawberry" than most of the leading Large Language Models (ncluding some leading models frrom OpenAI/Chatgpt. One of the few that did respond correctly at a first attempt was Mixtral (based in France)

This is what Gemini or Dave Bergmann
Senior Writer, AI Models, IBM said, A "mixture of experts" (MoE) is a machine learning technique where multiple specialized models, called "experts," work together to solve a problem by dividing the task into smaller, more manageable sub-domains, with a "gating network" selecting the most relevant expert for each input data point, ultimately combining their predictions for a more accurate result; essentially, it's a way to leverage the strengths of different models to achieve better performance across a wider range of scenarios.

🤣 It is not Super AI yet.  My questions weren't that great🤣 yet. I am kidding I wrote them. Hopefully, I will learn how to ask better questions.

LOL. I'm no language specialist, neither natural nor artificial. But we have some (human) experts here, I bet who'd recognize your questions as carbonic in seconds!
