Announcements with future display date

Dear community,

I am an instructor of a course. My course on Moodle comes with an "Announcements" forum, which from my understanding once you post something in there it will also send an email to students with its content?

I would like to draft these announcements beforehand and schedule them for display on Mondays the week after. I can see the "Display Period" section where I could set a "Display Start" date in the future. This should not display the announcement on Moodle to students until that date and time. However, what happens if:

  1. You set a display start date in the future.
  2. You check "Send forum post notifications with no editing-time delay".
  3. Click "Post to Forum"

What I would expect is that:

  1. It will NOT appear on Moodle until the display start date/time.
  2. It will NOT send an email immediately.
  3. It will allow me to edit the announcement until the display start date/time.
  4. Once the display start date/time is effective, it will show it to students on Moodle AND it will send an email to students shortly after the display start date/time is effective.

Can you please confirm if the above points are accurate?

Hello,

I've not actually tried setting a display start in the future AND checking the box "Send forum post notifications with no editing-time delay" as there is no need to check the box.

The editing-time delay just allows you to post in a forum and then edit the post before post notifications are sent. If you set a display start in the future, you have lots of time to edit the post.

I can confirm that if you set a display start date in the future (only) that:

  1. It will NOT appear on Moodle until the display start date/time - except for you and other instructors with the view hidden timed posts capability.
  2. It will NOT send an email immediately.
  3. It will allow me to edit the announcement until the display start date/time.
  4. Once the display start date/time is effective, it will show it to students on Moodle AND it will send an email to students shortly after the display start date/time is effective.
