Hello everyone,

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share some upcoming changes in the Moodle mobile app requirements:

Mobile app version 4.4 Changes (Expected release date around May):

  • Minimum Android Version: Updated to 7 (from 5.1)
  • Minimum iOS Version: Stays at 11; although it will be only tested in versions iOS 14 onward
Note: Android 5 and 6 users (currently a 0.5% of our user base) can still use version 4.3 but won't receive new updates.

Mobile app version 4.5 Changes (Expected release date November):

  •  Moodle site compatibility: Only for Moodle LMS 3.9 onward
Users will be still able to connect to Moodle sites running 3.5.x to 3.8.x, but some functions may be limited. Please notice that we only guarantee that the app will always work with Moodle LMS supported versions, however, we understand the need to support older versions.

Why these changes?

  • Compliance: Aligning with app store policies requires the use of the latest library/framework versions, requiring the new Android/iOS minimum versions.
  • Simplification: Updating allows us to reduce maintenance costs given our limited resources.

Regards, Juan
