Block updating Essay answer after moving to next question

Block updating Essay answer after moving to next question

Hi all - hope you're well and TIA for any support on this.

We're exploring replacing current exam software with the Moodle Quiz. However one requirement from our awarding body is that - when an Essay answer is completed and the user moves to the next question - they cannot edit their answer once submitted.

Is this possible? Had a search and can't find any info.

Currently using 3.11, moving to 4.2 in December.

Thanks - Dan J

Would it work to use Sequential navigation? Or would that not be appropriate for the other questions?

Thanks Mary. Yes aware of Sequential option, but does it 'block' changing answers once you progress?

Well I presume that if you use the sequential option then once they have answered the Essay question they can't go back to it, so presumably they can't change their answer if they can't navigate back to it? Or have I misunderstood you?

The best way to answer these questions is to try it for yourself on https://qa.moodledemo.net/course/view.php?id=2. You can log in there using both student and teacher accounts, set things up, and see what happens.

A good trick is to use two different web browers. Then, for example, you can be logged in as a student in Chrome, and a teacher in Firefox, and quickly switch between them.

Well, if I am allowed to be a bit pernickety... you are probably better trying on the standard moodle demo sites https://moodle.org/demo (particularly as the Sandbox site offers various versions not just the latest stable version) The QA site is currently on Moodle 4.4 dev so might not correctly reflect your organisation's Moodle site. (Yes, for sequential navigation of Quiz it probably will, but in general, the standard demo sites are more suitable.)
(And as a memo to self: I probably should create a quiz demonstrating sequential navigation on the School demo site..)

Thanks both. I've tried it now.

The challenge is this:

Sequential does what he want. BUT we also want a student to view an essay question they have answered in the quiz as potential reference for another question. Sequential doesn't allow for any reviewing at all. Was hoping there may be an additional plugin that allows for reviewing of answers for reference without ability to edit.

Did you try the "Description" question, the one with the 'i'?

HI Visvanath

Not quite sure what you mean by "the one with the 'i'". Can you clarify? 微笑

Ah OK, thanks. Yes aware of this label format. Not quite the solution we're after sadly.
