Hello,
I am doing a fresh install on ubuntu server and after cloning the the moodle directory and running sudo git branch -a, it only displays up to ver 31 stable.

What command are you using to clone?

Follow up ... sounds like you might have used a -b switch when issuing the original git command to acquire core code.
That restricts branches to the version used with that command.

While that does conserve space taken up by git the -b limits.

It was not even a problem to start with. I guess spending many hours in front of the PC makes you go blind sometimes.

I had to scroll all the way down to see the last line.
