I'm glad to hear you sorted this out! Just for the record, it's often very useful to use Maxima offline on the desktop application to trouble-shoot this kind of problem.
In STACK the function "plot" is a wrapper for Maxima's "plot2d" to sort out getting the plot image onto the webserver and then to a browser.
