     Hello,
I have a strange problem. I am trying to upgrade my Moodle 3.9 site to 4.2. I have followed all of the steps and now the site doesn't open it immediately downloads the index.php as a file to my computer. IT doesn't make any sense to me. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks

See the chart @:
Cannot go from 3.9.x to 4.2.x without making a stop at 3.11.x *and* upgrading your PHP version + extensions required for moodle to run to a minimum of 8.0.

Your site is broken due to PHP version.

Hope you took a full site backup (archive of code, archive of moodledata, and a DB dump of the DB for moodle prior to attempting upgrade as you might have to do a site restore if you did not take it to 3.11.highest first.
