TinyMCE in Moodle 4.1.3: can not upload files

TinyMCE in Moodle 4.1.3: can not upload files

hello,

I can't find the upload files functionality in the Tiny editor. I insert link and there is no option to navigate repositories to choose files

image%20%281%29.png

It is possible to do this for images or videos, but not for other types of files.

Looks like a bug in editor settings because uploading files is an important functionality, but I'm not sure.

Is there any parameter that I have to activate? Do you know is there's any issue opended about that?

best regards, Miguel

Your screenshot seems to be how one inserts a hyperlink, not a file. So I am not sure exactly what you are trying to do.

There should be an "Advanced" link on the lower right side. When you click on it, you should see an upload drop box.
Or, you can click on the Insert Picture tool and browse repositories.

Hi Miguel,

We added a Moodle version of the Link chooser in Moodle 4.2. Unfortunately this was not available in Moodle 4.1, though we will be guaging its usefulness in the future anyway as part of some upcoming work on the file picker, and file manager.

As Rick says, you can use the Image and Media plugins to insert media files.

thanks for your answers
Rick, you're right, I'm trying to insert a hyperlink, in other editors it's the way to insert a file with the Browse Repositories button.

As Andrew confirms, in Tiny for 4.1.3 that button has disappeared, and we can not use insert image or media buttons for insert pdf, for example, because the filetype is not supported.

Andrew, if I have understood, in Tiny for Moodle 4.1.3 it is possible to add media files and images, but not a text file (PDF, odf, docx).
If that is correct, could you consider to fix that? It is a very important functionality so that the main Moodle editor does not incorporate it in all its versions.

Regards
Miguel

I am a little puzzled, Miguel.

In my experimental Moodle 4.2, when I am using the TinyMCE editor and I attempt to insert a link, I see that I can "Browse repositories." Then I could link to a PDF file. It appears the file would have to be on the Server, or I could upload one.

I am attaching a screenshot of how I see this. Perhaps this is a feature of Moodle 4.2 that didn't exist in Moodle 4.1.3.

Yes Rick. You can do it in 4.2 but not 4.1.

Thanks Mary. Sorry that I didn't see Andrew's post. So all that Miguel needs to do is to upgrade to Moodle 4.2.

thanks Rick, we upgraded from 3.11 to 4.1 in December 2022, because it is an LTS version, we didn't expect a lack of functionality like this (not attaching files in the editor)
Upgrading again our site, which has thousands of active users, to a major version is not that easy, also for 4.2 the minimum server requirements change.
