Backup course with H5Ps

Backup course with H5Ps

Hi everyone

We have Moodle courses with many linked H5Ps.

1) If we make a backup of our course with “course reuse”, it will not contain the H5Ps. That is right?

2) Would it be possible to download all H5Ps in bulk?

I have already read that it is a lot of work to puzzle the H5Ps back into the course after restoring the course. But having to recreate all the H5Ps would even be much worse.

Thank you

Hi,

Assuming you are using H5P Core and not the plugin...

1) Not true. When backuping, be sure the "content of the content bank" is checked, and the H5P activities will be backuped. Restoring should not be a problem on the same site. I did occasionally have to relink the activities when restoring to another site.
2) Not that I aware of

Thank you very much for your reaction.

When we back-up, all options have a checkmark. But as soon as we use H5P's we get the warning

File references to external contents are included in the backup file. These won't work if the backup is restored on a different site.

I made a mini course, just containing one H5P-activity. When I tried to make the backup I got the warning above.

Do you have any idea what goes wrong?

Might depend which version of Moodle you are using.
Cf. https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-74201 - see the fixed versions.

Thank you very much for the information.

We are using Moodle 4.1.

I just discovered that the size of the backup increases when I add an additional H5P. So H5Ps have to be saved somehow.

But what is the cause and meaning of that error message? I'm backing up a Moodle course that only contains 2 H5Ps.

File references to external contents are included in the backup file. These won't work if the backup is restored on a different site.

Normally, this means the course has links to files within Moodle, but just in your installation of Moodle. If you restore this course and restore it to another Moodle instance, those files won’t be there. Otherwise, it tells you the backup file was successfully created. Maybe you've links to a private file or other parts of your Moodle...

Thank you for the information.

I tested it once more. I get the warning as soon as the course contains a linked H5P.

When the course contains only a copied H5P, the warning does not appear.

But even when I link the H5P, the back-up becomes larger with a significant annount. So I suppose the H5P is backupped.

Can this be explained?

As I experimented myself, yes the H5P is backuped. But, when restoring ON ANOTHER MOODLE SITE, you'll have to relink the activity to the the H5P container in the content bank.

I can only guess the physical location of the content bank is site-related...
