Certain Word files won´t stop downloading automatically

Hi everyone,

I´m working with Moodle 3.11. In several of my courses, I have a couple rogue Word documents that don´t seem to be listening to the settings I´ve set for them. In a given course, I uploaded a Word doc by selecting 'Add an activity or resource' and then selecting 'File' and then uploading my Word doc. However, whenever I navigate to the activity it automatically downloads the file, even though I have set it to ¨Embed¨ within the ¨Appearance¨ section in ¨Edit Settings¨. This has happened with four word files across two different courses. All other files, however--both other Word files and PDFs--work just how I want them to, and show up as embedded on the page. I can´t figure out what´s making these specific word files act differently: they are the same size as other word files that do show up as embedded.

Any ideas?

Phoebe

Word files really are not the best for embedding on a site.  You should convert to pdf - there are several browsers that will not open a word document and will always download.  Or copy and paste into a Page resource.
