"Question grades" ? Or perhaps "marks" ?

"Question grades" ? Or perhaps "marks" ?

Hello,

Just noticed that in the Quiz settings in the Appearance section we now have an item called

"Decimal places in question grades"

And I'm wondering why these were not called "question marks" - for consistency with how the term "mark" is used to refer to the points scored directly from questions - as opposed to the "grade" that is the value passed on to the Gradebook, often the sum of all the marks from all the questions in the quiz (re-scaled as appropriate based on the maximum score set on the "Edit quiz" page) ?

Would it make sense to perhaps change the indicated strings to "question marks" and "marks for individual questions" ?

Kind regards,

Przemek

Yes, Marks would be very slightly more 'correct', given how the words are conventionally used in the Moodle UI. (But, this is a very minor point.)

Ok, thank you, Tim. I think I will localise these strings for ourselves - I think such UX consistencies do matter to users, and translators.
Maybe I will also open a tracker improvement ticket for this - after checking with Helen Foster smile .

You can submit suggested improvements to the Moodle UI text at https://lang.moodle.org/ by contributing to a language pack called 'en_fix'.

Thanks Przemek for suggesting a consistency improvement in some quiz language strings and thanks Tim for confirming it. I have changed it in en_fix (as described in the guide Improving English language strings).

This one change makes me "see" the well-known punctuation symbol:

decimalplacesquestion | mod_quiz
Decimal places in question grades
=> Decimal places in question marks

But maybe I'm not near-native enough ? smile

Thanks so much, Helen.
