Plugin Installed from Moodle site at https://moodle.org/plugins/mod_diary

Problem: I cannot access anything that is in the admin path. I receive

The course works if I login as a student however I cannot perform any admin duties.  Any suggestions on either how to correct this OR what I should search for in the forum would be appreciated.

I used this site for my students because our IT department was having issues with students being removed from Canvas so I told them not to worry about mine...guess I wasn't any better at keeping things working.

Any help is appreciated.

Softaculous - this is a problem because we have no idea what it did.

Are you saying that it's gone to the upgrade screen (that you have shown) and is saying that you're MySQL version is too old? That's true - Moodle 3.11 definitely needs MySQL 5.7. This is something you'll need to get your host to sort out.

To fix it temporarily remove the plugin folder and then the upgrade screen should go away. But Howard is totally correct in his comments. Softaculous must have scripted something to bypass minimum requirements - we simply cannot guess at what else it did.

Thank you. I will search for the folder. I found the ZIP file in the folder and deleted that but will look for the folder.

Thanks

I was able to remove the plugin folder and the folder with the Zip file in it however the issue remains.

The site works fine other than admin access and had worked prior to this. I am open to other suggestions. I though about just backing up course and restoring it after un-installing that installation and starting fresh. Maybe with 4.0.3

I also found a Cache file referencing the diary plug in and deleted that. No good.

Yeh - ultimately, you are running the wrong version of the database. That's always going to be a problem.

Thank you. I am confused as to why it worked for so long without it if it was "wrong" but after adding a plug-in, it became an issue. I am looking at how to change that in Cpanel now.

We're back round to 'Softaculous'. This is not distributed by moodle, we don't know what's in it. So we have no idea what it did to make that happen.

Because when you installed the plugin, it ran the moodle prerequisite checks. Softaculous is tricky software that disables checks so that it can install Moodle on substandard systems. But softaculous has nothing to do with plugin installs so the checks are not disabled when you install a plugin. You are going to have continuous issues unfortunately until you can get upgraded database and at that point, I highly recommend reinstalling moodle without using softaculous.

Are there any links for methods to install moodle in shared housing packages without going through softaculous but using cpanel?

Try this first ... go directly to admin to purge cache.

https://yoursite/admin/purgecaches.php

If that doesn't work ... 傷心

There is this:

Howard does point out that there is an issue with DB server version however ... as well as php extension sodium ... which, if I am not mistaken, is required in higher versions of Moodle.

Shared hosting accounts don't normally give users options for moving databases from a shared DB server to another shared DB server that meets version requirements.

Not all shared hosting providers are the same ... so you might have to check with helpdesk where you host.   Don't be surprised if they tell you that shared hosting won't cut it anymore and they recommend a managed VPS site ... where they do the heavy lifting ... for a fee of course.   And would cost you more per month - more than likely.

TBH... it's one aspect of MySQL that annoys me. It's a real pain to upgrade. I normally just dump all the databases and then rebuild the server from scratch with the newer version. I've found it to be quicker and more reliable 大笑
