Hello,

As I am trying to test new things against the latest version of Moodle 1.6 beta, I am confused by the present situation. Can someone confirm that the following description is correct?

1- If I go the CVS way, I can download the HEAD, which at the moment consists of 1.6 beta 1; but I cannot update it regularly by doing a CVS update because SourceForge CVS is not working properly (has been bugged with pbs for quite some time now).

2. If downloat latest version here: http://download.moodle.org/ and get Latest Development Nightly Moodle 1.6 Beta HEAD I get (today) 1.6 Beta 3. Fine, but then I cannot update it through CVS because I do not install it using CVS.

Any better way of keeping daily updated with latest 1.6 beta ?

Well, normally anonymous CVS would be OK, but yes that server is currently, woefully, terribly stuck on an old copy of the code. I hope they fix that soon.

The only better way is to have a developer CVS account (which is working fine). Unfortunately, I can't give these out to everyone, but I would be able to give out a few such accounts to testers who can:

- test Moodle daily and broadly
- file detailed bug reports in the bug tracker
- preferably identify the fix or provide code

If you, or anyone else, wants to do this, contact me with your sourceforge account name.

Otherwise you'll need to stick with the daily packages.

Thanks for your reply. I guess I will stick with the daily packages and wait patiently for a fix of anonymous CVS any time soon.

I've just tried grabbing it myself and I can only get beta 1. Looks like it is still broken. Is there an ETA when sourceforge will fix this or is it just a matter of when it's fixed it is fixed?

As of 2006-04-14 we have an estimate on when the replacement CVS hardware for the new infrastructure will arrive. As soon as we get in into our hands, we'll actively work on it, with a goal of having it online by the end of the month of April. This is a best guess, and may not get hit due to the aggressive timeline we have placed on this project. However, be assured that recovery of this service in full is our highest priority. The sync process between developer and anonymous CVS (ViewCVS, etc.) is disabled now until the new infrastructure is in place, to ensure we have maximum coverage for the small number of data corruption issues that have been detected. We understand this is sub-optimal, but strongly believe that the protection of the data is paramount.
