How to Delete Notifications

How to Delete Notifications

Hello,

In Preferences, User Account, Notification Preferences, we've turned on Assignment Notifications Web (online and offline). It works exactly as we wanted; however, we don't see how to delete the notification when it's no longer needed. Can someone help with this? We are using Moodle version 3.

Thanks for the help.

Kind regards,

Darlene

Hi Darlene,

The notification should disappear after you view it i.e. the next time you look at your notifications it is no longer listed.

Hi Helen,

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately, that is not happening in our system. I click on the notification and then grade the corresponding quiz. Next time I look at the notifications, it changes color to white (indicating that I've read it), but it stays. It's even there the following day.
Any suggestions?
Kind regards,
Darlene

Are you using a supported version of Moodle (currently 4.0.1, 3.11.7 or 3.9.14)? If not, I would highly recommend that you upgrade.

Thanks for your advice, Helen, but we're using 3.9.17.

I also see no way to DELETE notifications. Yes, the little red bell disappears, but my messages list just keeps growing. This is more annoying now that we've turned on asynchronous backup/restores.

Hi Blair,
the following workaround worked for me:
1. Go to Notification preferences
2. Select Disable notifications checkbox - all notifications disappeared.
3. Then you can deselect Disable notifications checkbox.

Hope this helps.

I'm afraid that didn't do anything for me. All the messages remain.

I have the same problem, I would imagine that it is an issue with the theme (is this possible?). I am using klass theme, which theme are you using Blair?

James, we're using the Boost theme.

I just found this (head slap). It seems that there's a site-wide setting and that the messages will automatically disappear after that time. I still haven't found any way to do it manually, but I'm just relieved that they don't stay forever.

You're welcome, Darlene.

Please let me know if you find out more. I find it odd that the descriptions use the word "can" multiple times, implying (in my mind, anyway) that the setting makes it possible for the user to do this on demand and not that it's a site wide automatic process.

I feel like I'm still missing something.
