Beta Adaptable theme released for Moodle 4.0

Hello,

I have updated the Adaptable theme as follows:

Version 4.0.0.1 (Beta) for Moodle 4.0 version 2022041900.00 (Build: 20220419) and above within the MOODLE_400_STABLE branch until the next release:

with:

  1. Removed 'coursesectionactivityuseadaptableicons' setting as M4.0 course format API prevents it having an effect.
  2. Course format API changes remove use of 'print_single_section_page' method.
  3. Fix user picture size.
  4. The M4.0 course format API prevents themes from overriding section and module output, this is now the full responsibility of the course format.  The consequence of this means that the activity information code can no longer be called and used.  The tracker issue MDL-73679 is an 'entry point' for understanding all of this and how course formats can override the output, but as 'get_output_classname()' in '/course/format/classes/base.php' only allows 'overriding' of the rendering classes for course formats, then this is the 'why', whereas this sort of thing used to be in the core course renderer which the course format used and could be overridden by the theme and the course format use that instance.
  5. Refactor broken footer logic.
  6. Fix missing debug information.
  7. Fix navbar search styling.
  8. No edit switch.
  9. Fix button font family - #276.
  10. Fix no assignment instructions - ref: https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=434427#p1748150.
  11. Fix 'icon -> monologo' and menu spacing.
  12. Fix navbar cog down arrow icon.
  13. Remove double usage of 'icon' class on the 'This course' menu.
  14. Add 'unaddableblocks' setting that core code uses.
  15. State that the theme does not use the 'Course index'.
  16. Fix 'btn-icon' position - e.g. course 'Edit' on sections / modules.
  17. Activity styling.

I cannot stress enough that this version is for test servers ONLY!  It is a 'BETA' for which I'm asking you to spot and report any 'bugs' with the theme functionality as supplied (I've had to remove the Activity Information functionality because of core changes), therefore please report any issues with this version ONLY here.

Thank you,

Gareth

Took a brief look around - main thing I saw is that the admin page is broken - the tabs are not showing up so you cannot navigate to any admin settings.
This has always been a great theme and one of my customers uses it so I will be following but not a huge fan of the secondary navbar now that the main navbar is standard and am loving Foundation so will stick with that on my main site.

Hi Emma,

The admin tabs work for me! So any JS errors on the browser console please?

Absolutely nothing - could it be because I disabled the navigation block? Which made it incredibly hard for me to get to the admin page at all, btw, lol!!

Odd, ok, humm, need to think. Clean install from scratch on a new clean Moodle installation?

Clean install from scratch on my dev site that I have been playing with..using url theme switching - maybe some wonky css on my side that is bleeding over but happens in two different browsers (thought it might be a cache thing). If I get a chance I will try some more reliable testing and let you know. I guess don't worry about it unless someone else reports it too.

Ok, my love for puzzles is getting the better of me. Actually switching the site to theme and clearing caches had no affect. Here are my exported settings just to see if you can reproduce.

Hi Emma,

I did a complete clean install and cannot replicate the tabs not working for Adaptable's settings. Tried default setting values and yours too. Selected theme rather than url theme switching, which I use on my dev install and that works too.

Install 4.0.0.2 on Moodle 4.0.1+ (Build: 20220527)
Works OK.
Some old bugs presents eg:
- no clickable logo header
- Notification list (on heder) text and background color (no hover) white on gray - hard to read [adaptable two headers mode]

Stars / course logo img too close text "course title" in course list [menu header]

Ok:
'no clickable logo header' is a logic fix and not a bug, therefore will not be fixed as its not broken now.
'Notification list (on heder) text and background color (no hover) white on gray' is a bug.
'Stars / course logo img too close text "course title" in course list' is a bug.

Vastus: Beta Adaptable theme released for Moodle 4.0

by Mph Live -
Hi,
I just installed (new and clean install) the latest version of Moodle and Adaptable theme. No other plugins. The "Force users to log in" seems to be not working.
I have checked the forcelogin field in settings. Option Auto-login guests has also been turned off. I don't have any public courses and don't allow guest access at all.
Still, it is possible to view pages, course info etc. when not logged in, also front page does not direct to log in, but shows an empty front page instead.
Is this a known bug with this version or only me? Any ideas what I could try to fix it?

RE: "Force users to log in"

This is not a theme issue.

Thanks for quick reply. Maybe it is related to this, but from Adaptable settings this:
Show sidebar when not logged
theme_adaptable | sidebarnotlogged
Show the blocks sidebar when the user is not logged.

this is also not working - the sidebar is always visible, no matter if this is enabled or disabled.

You're correct, the Adaptable setting 'sidebarnotlogged' does nothing and has done nothing even in the M3.9 version of V3.9.1.4, thanks for the spot, so therefore not a theme problem as the setting is not used by any code.

One more thing noticed by me: when clicking "my courses" from the navigation (links to: ...mymoodle.com/my/courses.php), I get error page everytime with this message:
Call to undefined method
theme_adaptable\output\core_renderer::firstview_fakeblocks()
Any way to fix that?

That will be fixed in the next release, currently 4.0.0.2 containing the patch: https://gitlab.com/jezhops/moodle-theme_adaptable/-/commit/b2b9fa06f4a6b90cbd85906ae7681e92bc63cc06.
