It is possible to add a configuration field admin_setting_configstoredfile and use it to upload the image. I am still wondering how the banner can be displayed on top of the signup.php.
It looks like one has to overwrite outputrenderers->header - but is this possible inside of a plugin? Or do we have to create a childtheme of our theme?
