Non-editing teacher cannot add announcement

Non-editing teacher cannot add announcement

Hi,

I have two courses set up currently. Both have a "forum" activity. In one forum, Non-editing teachers can add a new topic. In the other, they get the error "You do not have permission to add a new discussion topic for all participants".

Permissions have not been edited, and so the forum:startdiscussion and forum:addnews permissions are both allowed for Non-editing teachers in both forums.

How can I work out why Non-editing teachers get the "You do not have permission" error in one course but not the other?

Moodle 3.10.3 (Build: 20210325)

Many thanks!

Hi Justin,

I have a few options to look into, but access the actual site would be best for testing.

Is it perhaps possible that the one course is making use of groups?
Is it possible that the one teacher has other roles that will override or interfere with the course role?

Does the forum where they cannot post have groups? You probably need to tweak the non-editing teacher role to allow “access all groups”.

Hi both,

Yes, the issue was a groups one!

The forum activity for one course had 'Group mode' set in its 'Common module settings'.

Many thanks for the solution 😄
