A small step...

A small step...

After playing around with the last few version-ettes of moodle for a while, I introduced it to the teaching staff, as a possible solution to something they've been wanting to do for a while...putting some multiple choice questions on-line, with the ability to track students' scores.

moodle can do a lot more than that of course, and I am busy evangelising for more use to be made as a way of improving and firming up the teaching-support materials. As I see it, moodle can be used both as a back-up to the existing teaching, especially with MCQs and on-line assignments (and hopefully videos of lectures in the not too distant future)...*and* as a teaching tool in it's own right. I'm planning to have larger parts of our courses on here to enable distance learning in the future, not just for the students who are physically at our institution.

Anyway...The multiple choice stuff went online yesterday and students have started to sign up and get into it. Along with the MCQs there are some acrobat versions of lecture notes (which open in the acrobat plug-in *in* the browser, which looks good and works well) and a small panel with useful links. I'm hoping it will be a big success, as I have plans for this, including more and better resources smile

But for now, our tiny pilot project is up and running.

Many thanks for writing that, Sean! I love hearing these kinds of stories. big grin

I know you've registered some good bugs (which should be fixed in 1.0.8 by Jan 1 or so) but it's good to hear it's working well otherwise.

I am so full of good ideas for Moodle 2 ... tongueout

And thank you Martin smile Gets me kudos from some of the more awake members of staff smile (The ones that aren't still in the latter part of the nineteenth century).

Talking of version 2...groups, I think you mentioned as one thing. That would be useful.

The way our mob works, each tutor has three or four teaching groups of about 18-20 students each that they are responsible for...so they would probably want to be able to check assingments, and quiz scores for their groups, without having to wade through hundreds of other scores. Any chance that a feature like that might make it into V2? I can write it up as a formal feature request on Bugs if you like?
