I've re-downloaded and uploaded and indeed the ids are in my database as they should be.
I was being naive trying to tack the CMIDs onto a URL which obviously has other variable elements, which I hadn't taken into account.
Looks like I can moved forward with this now.
It's interesting that about 65% of the events are "Views", which I'm not much interested in.
And many of them are my work in the course, which isn't of any interest to my reporting.
Easily deleted of course.
