To echo Ken's points: we're asking what those MySQL (or MariaDB) settings are currently set to prior to us making any suggestions about changing these. The settings we've asked about – max_allowed_packet and wait_timeout – are fairly standard in MySQL/MariaDB hosting so server support people should know how to check and adjust these. The values of these settings might depend on whether the site is on a shared host or VPS.
Both settings can be changed on the fly by a root user, e.g. SET GLOBAL max_allowed_packet=16777216, no need to restart MySQL. They'd need adding to my.cnf to make them persistent.
