Hi,

You've probably noticed that the Teacher manual, available via the Help link in the course administration block, is very out-of-date... in fact it was written by Martin in 2002! surprise

Everyone, please help create an up-to-date version ready for Moodle 1.6 here: Moodle Docs Teacher introduction. All contributions are welcome! smile

I started to paste some things in from the features course and martin's original document but then remembered this page: http://docs.moodle.org/en/Teacher_documentation which is similar but more complete so was wondering what the difference between the two should be, if that makes sense.

Hi Darren,

Firstly, a big THANK YOU for your contributions to Moodle Docs. approve

Just thinking about things... You're right about the Teacher documentation page being similar. Perhaps we don't need a separate Teacher introduction page and simply need to improve the Teacher documentation page to make it more friendly. However, the Teacher documentation page contains so many links that it may be overwhelming for teachers new to Moodle. The Teacher introduction page could therefore just contain the basics for getting started.

Any comments?

I vote for loosing it and improving the Teacher documentation page.

I agree the links are not great for non-technical teachers new to moodle. How about a basic introduction to, say, activity modules and then a link for further information that will take them to a new page with more detail about each one.

Actually I have a better idea. How about a descriptive introduction and the links are embedded in the paragraph text rather than as a list? That would be more friendly.

I like what Darren has done, converting long lists of links into friendly text.

Of course there is also nothing wrong with pages full of links but the first point of entry for teachers into MoodleDocs should be this friendly page and should concentrate on the essentials. Someone may in addition want to create a page for advanced users where they get links to ALL the information.

Darren Smith -
Thank you, Gustav.

I still have some more work to do on the page and of course anybody else should chip away at it but I have paused as I don't want the page to be too long. For example it may be best to give a blocks overview rather than having to come up with tenuous links to the block names that are already there in the bullet list. Reducing the need to include everything on the intro page (if more advanced information were available through the links) would free up space for some imges to break up the text.
