Moodle mobile and zoom external tool meetings

Hi, we have used zoom external tools in the past two months. Most of us launch the zoom meetings from desktop browsers or iPad browsers. 

Some of our teachers have used the Moodle mobile app for a while. Two teachers tried to run launch zoom meetings directly from inside the Moodle mobile app yesterday but then we could not launch the meetings and no error message displayed. May I know if mobile app can launch zoom meeting directly? If so, which zoom plugin to use, LTI external tools? or zoom meeting activities? 

A bit quite urgent! Because more and more students discovered the convenience in moodle mobile app and they may start shifting to launch zoom directly from moodle mobile app. Many thanks in advance.

Hi James,

how are you trying to launch Zoom from the app? Is it just a link to a Zoom meeting?

I have installed two zoom module, 

1. the first test from external tool (then zoom video meeting) > a green icon is created

1st green icon zoom meeting from external tool

External tool: Zoom Video Meeting

2. and the second zoom meeting from standard zoom meeting. 

the 2nd blue icon from standard zoom meeting

Now, testing: Enter mobile app,

1a.  launch the 1st green zoom icon (external tool) , result: successful 

successful start green icon zoom meeting (external tool) in moodle mobile app

1b. schedule a new meeting, result: successful

successfully scheduled a new meeting of green icon zoom meeting

1c. click the button "Start this meeting" , launching a zoom page

launch a zoom page after clicking "Start this meeting"

1d. nothing happens, even tapping "Launch Meeting" again and again. Error message: "Zoom may not be supported on your browser" from inside the app.

1e. 1st test failed to start zoom app from inside Moodle mobile app.

2nd test is to to click done. This time let's try the blue icon Zoom meeting

2a. From the Moodle mobile app, classroom "DS01 English", this time click the blue button "DS01 Zoom" 

blue button "DS01 Zoom" activity module, NOT the green "External tool" icon Zoom meeting

2b. the activity page is loaded normally, click the "Join Meeting" 

Click "Join Meeting"

2c. Successful, starting zoom

2d. Zoom panel is loaded successfully from Moodle Mobile app

2e. Zoom is started successfully

2f. 2nd test (on blue icon) is successful, but the first test (on green icon) is failed

Conclusion: 

Moodle Mobile app does NOT support to launch the (green icon) External Tool - Zoom Video Meeting. 

Moodle Mobile app ONLY supports to launch the (blue icon) Zoom Meeting activity.

thank you so much for such detailed instructions. I opened an issue to check if we can fix the issue with the external tool (green icon).

I'm glad the Zoom activity (blue icon) is working and you can use it as a workaround.
