Student Unable to Add Thread in Forum

Hi! I am a student and have been actively partaking in my class forums. However, I am not able to add to the most recent forum. I can read the other student threads and can reply, but I cannot add my own thread. The button is not there at the top. 

I have shutdown my computer, twice, to see if maybe it was a bug. But it was to no avail.

Please help.

Hello, it may be that the permissions have been changed so you are not allowed to start a new discussion. Another possibility is that the forum is a 'Single, simple discussion' type forum, where the teacher posts a question and students are only able to reply.
